Fall Travel Wardrobe from Target

Looking great while traveling doesn’t have to cost a fortune. Ideally you can put together your travel wardrobe from items already in your closet. If you find yourself missing key travel wardrobe items you can always look for cheap alternatives. Of course buying clothing of the highest quality is preferable but sometimes our budgets just don’t allow that. With that in mind I was impressed with Target’s Fall offerings and could see myself easily incorporating some (or all) of the items into my travel wardrobe.

Some things to keep in mind when shopping:
* Always look for the best fit, this may mean going up or down in your usual size but a good fit will mask any quality issues.
* The fabrication of clothing bought at cheaper places might include more synthetic blends but this works in your favor because they will be less bulky than cotton.
* Darker colors always look more expensive and will help you pull off a chic look.

This Target travel capsule wardrobe follows my packing light guidelines and you’ll find my essential 11 items included (1 outerwear, 2 sweaters, 1 Blouse/Button down, 2 layering tanks, 2 tees/tops, 2 jeans/pants, and 1 dress).

trav_target

1. Outerwear
A trench is a no-brainer for travel. Target’s version of the trench will help complete your travel outfits without costing a bundle.

2. 2 Sweaters
The range of temperatures during fall weather make lightweight layers essential. The pullover sweater (3.) looks equally smart with jeans or black pants and the mottled black color provides a bit of texture. The open front cardigan (12.) layers nicely over tanks or tees for a casual look or pair it with a blouse or tunic to dress it up.

3. 1 Blouse OR button down
This Target tunic makes for a chic look when worn with black pants and flats or dresses up jeans and booties. The trendy longer length helps mask any problem areas around the waist (aka muffin top) but it could also be worn tucked in.

4. Two layering tanks
Tanks are useful for travel because you can layer them underneath sweaters or blouses. You can also use one to sleep in. The basic black (6.) and gray (7.) versions from Target will blend in with your travel wardrobe easily.

5. Two Tees or Tops
If you are packing light a long sleeve (or 3/4 length) tee and a short sleeve should do the trick. I love a striped tee (2.) and this one breaks up the dark palette a bit. A simple tee shirt (13.) worn with jeans and a trench makes for a classic and comfortable travel look.

6. Two Jeans or Pants
I’d never travel in the fall without my trusty jeans. Target has a great dark denim option (4.) which makes them look more expensive than they are. If your travels are casual you could bring 2 pairs of jeans but packing a pair of black pants gives you lots of options if you need to look a little dressier. Target’s version of the little black pant (LBP) can be dressed down with a t-shirt and sneaks or dressed up with a blousy tunic and smart flats or wedge heels. As an extra bonus the synthetic fabrication of these ponte pants (5.) will take up less room than jeans.

7. Dress
I often have trouble finding that perfect travel dress – one that can be worn with leggings or without and that can be dressed up or down. Target has got you covered, I found several dresses that could work and I finally settled on this little number (10.) which you could rock a number of ways.

8. Optional
If you end up with room in your suitcase or want even more outfit choices you can add in a few of optional items. If you are traveling to someplace like Europe I might forgo the cardigan and throw in a blazer (19.) instead. It instantly pulls you together without being too fussy. Also if you travels call for dressing up, the wedge pump (20.) will dress up your jeans, black pants and dress.

9. Footwear
I’ve included shoes from Target in this travel capsule wardrobe to complete the look. I can’t attest to the walk-ability factor of the shoes except for the Kendall bootie (14.). I have a similar bootie that I purchased at Target and took it on a trip to New Orleans and was able to walk comfortably in it. Comfortable walking shoes are essential for any trip so make sure you take time to break your shoes in before your trip so you aren’t hampered by blisters or sore feet. With that being said I found these Lucretia leopard print sneakers (9.) to be irresistible and I think they provide a nice balance of fun and functional. I also love these Valmai flats (8.) that are a slightly pointy toe loafer, they look classic yet modern.

10. Accessories
As any Target aficionado knows it’s all too easy to find great accessories at Target. I edited my selection but you can find just about anything at Target just remember to stick to your color palette or punch up your neutrals with pops of color. The Mossimo Tote bag should fit all your daily travel essentials and it has handy shoulder straps that you can remove and just carry by the handles (a little more dressed up).

Another note about the items, all of these may not be available at your Target but you can easily order online. Cheers and Happy Packing!

Target in no way has compensated me-I’m just a fan of Target!

What a blog! Talking about travel AND Target! Doesn’t get much better than that!

I have a black pair and a brown pair of Steve Madden boots from DSW. They were a little pricier than Target, but they’ve lasted me forever and they never pinch or give me blisters and they are essentially waterproof!

    Great Post!

I really enjoyed this post, and also the post where you made outfits from your summer packing list. I really use these tips! Here’s a question–if you had to pick a coat for winter travel, what would it be? I am using your fall packing list as my wardrobe template while I am traveling with my family for 6 months, but it has just gone very cold where I am (too cold for a trench coat and cashmere sweater–tried that yesterday at the playground). Do you have any other tips for winterizing the fall/spring wardrobe? Thanks, Elizabeth

šŸ‘ PACK IT IN A POUCH | First Aid

Don’t buy a pre-made travel first-aid kit. Build one around you and what you’re actually likely to need.

Mine has evolved after years of travel and a few lessons learned the hard way: Stomach issues in Oaxaca, painful sinus pressure on a flight, blisters from long walking days and even a stye on one trip. 😬

And you don’t need a fancy organizer. A Ziploc bag works just fine. The goal is to have the things you might need when you’re away from home.

Want to build your own? Comment POUCH and I’ll send you my First Aid planner + links to the first-aid essentials I pack.

Save this for your next trip and tell me what’s in your first-aid pouch that I’m missing. šŸ‘‡

No more digging through your personal item at 35,000 feet.
Everything I want during the flight lives in one small pouch, from takeoff to landing. (I forgot to mention in the video the oh so important lip balm!). It’s one of those tiny travel systems that makes a big difference.

This is the first in my šŸ‘Pack It in a Pouchāœˆļø series, where I’m breaking down my personal pouch system for travel, one pouch at a time.
Do you use an in-flight pouch? Tell me what goes in yours! šŸ‘āœˆļø

After 25 years of traveling carry-on only, I’ve realized that some of my favorite travel habits aren’t just practical... they’re kind of chic.

They’re the little choices that make travel feel lighter, easier, and a little more effortless.

I’m loving this trend! What do you think is ā€œkinda chicā€ ? ✨

āš“ļøCruises can feel like five different trips rolled into one.

You’re packing for port days, sea days, pool time, dinners onboard, excursions, and sometimes multiple countries with completely different vibes.

It’s no wonder so many people end up bringing multiple suitcases.

My approach is different.
Rather than building separate wardrobes for every part of the trip, I start with a smaller core capsule and add a Cruise Mini Capsule with only the activity-specific pieces I actually need. The result is one carry-on that can handle the entire itinerary.

The result is one carry-on that can handle the entire itinerary.

āš“ļø Comment ā€œCRUISEā€ and I’ll send you:
• My free Europe cruise packing guide
• The complete Mediterranean Cruise Capsule on LTK
• My in-depth cruise packing article on Substack

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned after 25+ years of carry-on travel is that not every travel ā€œessentialā€ is actually essential.

Travel products are personal.
What works beautifully for one traveler may not work at all for another.

The goal isn’t to buy everything influencers recommend.
The goal is to find the systems and products that make your trips easier each time you travel.

And sometimes, that means skipping a few things people swear by.

✨ Comment ESSENTIALS if you’d like my list of the small products and systems I do pack again and again.

After 25 years of carry-on travel and many trips to Europe, these are the small systems and products I find myself packing again and again.

Not because everyone needs every single item on this list.

But because these are the little things that make packing lighter, staying organized, and navigating long travel days easier.

Some are practical.
Some are a little random.
Some are surprisingly useful.
Take what works for you. Leave what doesn’t.

āœˆļø Save this for your next trip.

Despite surviving Texas summers, hot-weather travel has still humbled me.

From 10 days in Havana in July to heat waves in Mexico and some of my hottest sightseeing days in Paris, I’ve learned that packing for extreme heat is different.

The hottest travel days changed the way I build summer capsules:
ā˜€ļø More dressesā€Øā˜€ļø More technical fabricsā€Øā˜€ļø More breathable natural fibersā€Øā˜€ļø Fewer heavy fabrics and fitted silhouettes
This is the exact dress-forward capsule I’d pack for extreme heat travel in Europe.

It’s also why I rely on my 4 F’s framework: Fit, Fabric, Function, and Fashion.
Every trip requires a different balance. For extreme heat, the continuum naturally shifts, with fabric and function becoming more important while still leaving room for personal style.
