This summer’s sizzling temperatures have certainly spiced up my travels! From the cultural heart of San Miguel de Allende in Mexico to the vibrant streets of Austin, Texas, my recent trips required a versatile and functional summer travel capsule that could keep up with the heat while ensuring I remained stylish and confident. And even as we edge closer to the tail-end of the summer, I squeezed in a last minute jaunt to the charming city of Santa Fe.

Linen or Gauzy Cotton Clothing

Don’t let the late summer heat intimidate you. Now is the perfect time to pack breezy, lightweight fabrics and silhouettes. Look to linen items for your summer travel capsule. Linen, derived from the flax plant, is highly breathable. Its weave allows air to flow freely, making it perfect for hot summer days. Whether you’re exploring bustling markets or relaxing on a sunny beach, linen will keep you cool and comfortable all day long. A linen two piece set instantly pulls you together with the added travel wardrobe advantage of wearing each piece combined with other items in your capsule.

If you want to minimize wrinkles of your linen travel clothing roll instead of folding. Also hang up items once you’ve arrived at your destination. Regardless of your travel destination, comfortable walking shoes are a non-negotiable essential. Consider investing in trendy yet comfortable sneakers or versatile sandals that will complement any outfit. My go-to summer shoe trio consists of reliable sneakers, comfortable walking sandals, and a chic yet comfortable choice for dressier occasions – a good example would be an espadrille or a walk-able wedge sandal. For those of you who are planning to hit the beach or lounge by the pool, don’t forget to include a sleek and lightweight pair of flip-flops in your packing list.

Versatile Tops

Pack a mix of tops – think lightweight blouses, stylish tank tops, and basic tees. These can be easily mixed and matched with different bottoms for a variety of looks. A classic white shirt is also a wardrobe essential – you can pair it with shorts or tied at your waist with a skirt. I often use it as a lightweight swimsuit cover-up (shown below). Opt for a pair in a breathable fabric like linen or cotton, and in a neutral shade such as beige, navy, or black to ensure maximum mix-and-match potential.

Pair them with a fitted tank top for exploring city streets during the day, or dress them up with a stylish blouse for a more refined evening look. The added bonus? Summer accessories

A pair of sunglasses, a wide-brimmed hat, a functional yet fashionable bag, and some minimalist jewelry can elevate your summer travel outfits and provide extra functionality. During summer travel especially to high altitude destinations I always pack a hat. On my recent trip to San Miguel de Allende Mexico I used a magnetic hat clip to help me transport my hat and it worked out great. I also used it during my travel day when I was in a restaurant and didn’t need the hat anymore.

While I love chunky statement necklaces, this summer I’ve been turning towards dainty necklaces or mid scale necklaces. I layer the necklaces to change up the look. Earrings can also dress up simple summer outfits.
